Is it Difficult to Make a Website in 2021?

The short answer to the question of whether it is difficult to create a website is that it varies from person to person.

It depends on their general knowledge, the type of website they want to create, and the platform it will be based on.

But, for a beginner who knows nothing at all, it’s clear that it is becoming easier compared with how it used to be in the past, when having good knowledge of coding and manipulating languages like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP was unavoidable.

To make a website today, some general skills are needed such as planning and designing.

1. Plan a Website

The first thing to do before building a website is thinking about how to come up with a profitable niche and a business name.

In a detailed guide about making websites, I explained that profitable niches are supposed to be micro markets with less competition, and high profit.

On the other hand, a business name is what people remember and associate with the service that you provide.

The more time you spend thinking about these, the better ideas you get to, the more profit you make at a later time.

2. Register a Domain Name and Get a Web Host

Once the brainstorming session is done, you can register a domain name and get a web hosting service.

As a beginner, it is preferable to get the two from the same place, so that you don’t have to think a lot about how to link them.

I created a tool for you that will help you search for a free .com domain name for the first year, included in a hosting package, from one of the best web hosting services on the internet today. You can check it out here.

Be aware that a domain name is not something to purchase and own forever. Domains can only be registered for a period of time ranging from 1 to 10 years.

When it reaches the expiry date, it becomes public. So, it is very important to never forget to renew it as soon as possible.

Also, because .com domain names are popular and trusted, it’s recommended to get one and avoid unusual ones that may hurt your brand, especially those that are offered for free. They are associated with scamming websites.

3. Design the Website

Designing a website today is a very easy thing to do.

To make it easy for beginners, web hosts are including website builders and ready templates in their services.

Editing and publishing are now quick and easy. With simple drag and drop of elements like texts, images, videos, you’ll have your website built without any special knowledge.

But because this option is limited and full of drawbacks, people prefer Content Management Systems like WordPress.

What is WordPress?

WordPress is a free web application that can be used by anyone to create and manage websites very easily.

With WordPress, you don’t have to spend a long time coding your website appearance or functionalities, nor be trapped with the limits of what it offers as is the case for website builders.

With the idea of themes and plugins, the sky is the limit.

A theme is what modifies the way your website looks, do you want it to look like a website for food & recipes, houses & gardens, or an online storefront?

With only three clicks:

  • Search
  • Install
  • Activate

You can turn your website the way you want.

A plugin adds new functionalities, such as e-commerce functionality.

Some examples of plugins are: If your website SEO is bad, you can search for SEO plugins. If you think you are wasting your time manually publishing your content on social networks, you can install a plugin that automates it for you…, etc.

For more examples, here is a link to the complete list of plugins on the repository.

Is it Difficult to Install WordPress?

You can install WordPress in two ways, the manual, and the automatic way.

For a beginner, manual installation is difficult and not recommended.

Luckily, many web hosting services are providing an easy way to do it.

Thanks to applications like 1-click-installer and Softaculous, the process is quick and easy.

Is it Hard to Build a Website With WordPress?

My short answer is no because, without any special knowledge, you can integrate into your website very complicated functionalities.

With a simple keyword and a few clicks, as you just learned, you can find the theme and the plugin that turns your website the way you like with most of the functionalities that you want.

Nevertheless, if we see it from the perspective that creating is more than just building and writing web pages. Then indeed, a vast amount of knowledge is needed.

In addition to building the website, design, marketing, and maintenance are mandatory.

What’s Difficult in this Question?

Let’s say you run into an infinite redirection problem because of a bad SSL configuration…

Or that your website structure is not optimized for SEO?

Or that, your website is getting a little traffic?

How would you solve it?
